Stanislavski believed the actors shouldn't just know their lines, but also know the motivation/intention for each line. He thought that actors should have back stories and know their characters inside and out. He was committed to realism throughout his working life. His key approach to theatre was experimenting. He did not believe in addressing the audience (and therefore breaking the fourth wall) as this broke the illusion of the action being real life being played out.
Emotional memory! He believed that actors should find past experiences that trigger the same emotion required for their role. This would make their acting more realistic and believable. Moreover, Stanislavski linked tempo to the speed of the action or feeling; he linked rhythm to the depth/intensity of emotion
