Storytelling (1) ("The Three Brothers")

To begin today's lesson we watched "The Tale of The Three Brothers" from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". Our task was to re-tell the story using a variety of different techniques. Our first step was allocating parts. Our mini cast list is as follows:
     -   Oldest brother = Lewis                       -   Death = Rhiannon & Charlie
     -   Middle bother = James                       -   Wizard murderer = Lorna
     -   Youngest brother = Charlie                 -   Dead fiancee = Lorna

After establishing who was going to play what part and the synopsis of our version, we starting blocking our piece. We decided to have the character of Death narrate the action (with Rhiannon and Oliver taking it in turns, however they both spoke at the same time - presenting the technique of communal voice - on more important lines which we wanted to emphasise). We used the Frantic Assembly technique of Round-by-through for our transitions to make our piece flow as much as possible. Also, we did some lifts at certain points to add dimension to our piece.

We performed our piece at the end of the lesson to the year 13 class. They said that they enjoyed the piece and liked how it was physical theatre based to make it interesting to the eye, whilst using narration at the same time to help them understand the movement more.
