Storytelling (6) (Greek Myths)

21/10/15

Today we worked out how we would tell the story of Perseus and Medusa. To begin, we wrote down the key points of the story that we needed to include, these were:
    -   King steals Perseus' mother
    -   Son has to kill Medusa
    -   Perseus receives gifts (shield, winged sandals and helmet)
    -   Perseus kills Medusa
    -   Perseus turns the King into stone with Medusa's head
    -   Perseus gives the head to Athena

After we established these points, we wrote down a number of different ways in which we could tell the story. The list of ways is as follows:
    -   Monologue / duologue
    -   Still images
    -   Projection
    -   Narration
    -   Dance / physical theatre
    -   Still images

After having pros and cons for each idea, we decided on combining still images, projection and narration. Our idea was to create a stop-motion piece that we would project onto the back wall, which would then narrate over. To do this we created loads of freeze frames which we took photographs of. All the freeze frames have only two of us in as we need someone to take the photos! Although we could have had all three of us in the photograph by using a timer, we thought that it would be easier, quicker and more efficient to have one of us take the photograph. So far we have taken 98 photographs. Next lesson we will finish off taking our photos, put all of the photos onto an animation and work out who will narrate what at what points.
