Business (7) - Task C - Arts Ed Research

Audition Process:
  • Round 1:   Jazz workshop. Prepare a one minute section from a "legit" Musical Theatre ballad written no later than 1965. Prepare a one minute section from a contrasting Musical Theatre piece. Bring sheet music for both. Avoid pieces that require "extreme" character voices.
  • Round 2:   May be required to dance again. Know both of your songs from stage one in full. Prepare on Shakespeare monologue, of no more than three minutes, from the list provided. Prepare a contemporary monologue (written after 1990) of no more than three minutes and written by a British playwright. Use your own accent, regardless of where your character is from. A group workshop will commence, involving movement and gameplay. Interview with senior tutors. You will be physically checked, so must wear shorts and a top.
Course - First & Second Year:
  • Dance:   Develop "competence and confidence" in jazz, ballet, tap, pas des deux and contemporary. Develop understanding of the human body.
  • Singing:    One-to-one singing lessons and repertoire tuition (repertoire will include Musical Theatre and contemporary).
  • Acting:   Acting classes (to learn to be convincingly and to develop concentration, imagination and observation). Acting technique (to control movement and voice, and to work in a disciplined manner within a group). Will also work on different acting styles
  • Contextual studies:   Learn about major composers, lyricists, directors, choreographers and dramatists
  • Performance:   Termly performances to tutors and students to prepare for third year performances and to put skills learned into practice.
  • Professional Practice:   Career workshops with tax specialists, agents, performers and Equity, to name a few. Audition classes with guest choreographers and directors.
Course - Third Year: 
  • Professional Performance:   Three stage musicals in front of paying audiences. West End graduation showcase.

  • Acceptance rate = 50 places, 1800 applicants
